So I love mythology, and I like to look at stories from all around the world. My mom, having relatives in Hawaii where there was a lot of Japanese influence, grew up being told many old Japanese folktales and ghost-stories, which she would then tell me (when she didn't think they were too scary). And I must say, I have always LOVED the kitsune myths, and THOSE MASKS! I REALLY love those masks. XD
The other day I was like "hm, I think I should draw one", so I started to and realized "well, it SHOULD have a body, I just can't leave floating!" The entire process went something like that - I thought it was just going to be a quick doodle but then I started playing with light sources and colors, so this is what I came up with.
I know I already told you this, but THANK YOU SO MUCH KAYYYYY! I'm actually pretty proud of the layering I did with the colored pencils - it's not something that I've actually done before (well, at least not to this degree), so while I was working on it the little voice in the back of my head kept on saying "STOP, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, YOU'LL RUIN IT".
that.... and there can never be enough blues and purples. It's like ambience, you know?
It looks absolutely amazing! I love the blend of colors with the different light sources (the ghostly flames), the mask, and the design of the kimono. This is gorgeous, Kirsche!
Thank you, Natsumi! It really means a lot that you think so - I'm flattered not only by your comments on the art, but also the fact that you like it. <3
Thanks Angel! I love it - I remember reading in a book I have on Obake someone said "Japanese myths are so interesting because they love and believe in their myths more than anyone else". Now, I can't say that that's entirely true, but I do agree that the amount of respect they give to their folklore is part of why it's so impressive AND believable, even when the tales are so fantastical.
